Guide
Schools in Bellaire
Bellaire does not run its own schools. Its public schools belong to Houston ISD, the large district that surrounds the city, and the arrangement goes back to 1928, when Bellaire joined the district and built an addition to its school facing Third Street. What the city has instead is proximity. A high school, two elementary schools, a middle school and several private campuses all carry Bellaire addresses, inside a town of 3.6 square miles.

The district itself is in an unusual period. Houston ISD is run by a state-appointed board of managers, and it was that board that approved the 2026-27 academic calendar.
Bellaire High School
All students who live in the City of Bellaire are zoned to Bellaire High School, at 5100 Maple. The school opened in the fall of 1955 as part of Houston ISD, serving Bellaire and nearby Meyerland, and its zone still reaches well past the city line, into Meyerland, Braesmont, Knollwood Village, Maplewood, Westridge, Willow Meadows and parts of Braeswood Place, Westbury and Gulfton. A town of 17,202 people shares its high school with a good piece of southwest Houston.
The school's reputation rests on languages and the International Baccalaureate. In 1979 Bellaire became an authorized IB World School, the first in Texas to adopt the IB Diploma Programme, according to the school's own history, and it grew into Houston ISD's World Languages Magnet with IB and AP pathways. A multi-year rebuild of about $141.5 million opened major portions of a new building beginning with the 2021-22 school year: modern classrooms, a competition gym, an auditorium and an expanded natatorium, arranged to keep the courtyard and "Main Street" feel of the old campus.
The elementary schools
Paul W. Horn Elementary, at 4530 Holly Street, was built in 1945 and reported about 750 students for 2024-25. It is named for Paul Whitfield Horn, a Houston schools superintendent from 1904 who later became the first president of Texas Technological College, now Texas Tech. The school lists art, PE, music, a library, STEM and a science lab among its offerings.
Condit Elementary, at 7000 S. 3rd Street, is the descendant of the town's original school. The original Bellaire School on Laurel Street, built in 1914, stood on pilings that lifted its classrooms above occasional floodwaters. The campus was greatly expanded in 1959, and the school is named for A. J. Condit, who in 1910 persuaded the Harris County School Board to provide a teacher for Bellaire's twenty students.
Kolter Elementary, at 9710 Runnymeade Drive in Houston, opened in 1960 and sends part of its zone to Bellaire High. Lovett Elementary, at 8814 S. Rice Avenue in Houston, opened in September 1958 for Meyerland children who had been bused to Horn since 1955, and it is the one elementary school that feeds entirely into Bellaire High.
Horn and Condit each have a SPARK Park on campus, a community park on public school grounds that neighbors can use too.
Middle school
Pin Oak Middle School, at 4601 Glenmont, is a Houston ISD application-only campus, not a neighborhood school. Families zoned to Pershing, Jane Long Academy or Meyerland Performing and Visual Arts Middle School can apply for its boundary pathway, and families anywhere in the district can apply for its magnet pathway. The school reports a TEA rating of A for 2024-25, 15 high-school-credit courses, and the largest enrollment in its history at the start of 2025-26.
Parts of five Houston middle schools feed into Bellaire High: Cullen, Fondren, Long, Meyerland Performing and Visual Arts, which opened in 1959 as Johnston Junior High, and Pershing.
How to check your zone
Houston ISD assigns every residence a feeder pattern: one elementary, one middle and one high school. The name on the mailing label and the line on the district map are not the same thing, and only the map decides where a child goes to school. Lovett, with a Houston address in Meyerland, feeds Bellaire High entirely, while Kolter, Horn and Condit each send part of their zones there.
To check an address, use the Select a School tool on the Houston ISD website, or contact the district's Student Transfer Department. The district's Demographics and Zoning office handles address verification and attendance-zone questions, and the Bellaire High School boundary map is posted on the school's site.
Private schools
Among the private schools that list Bellaire addresses:
- Episcopal High School, 4650 Bissonnet St., an Episcopal college-preparatory high school for grades 9-12. - The Post Oak School, 4600 Bissonnet St., a Montessori school. The Bellaire campus takes children from 14 months through grade 6; its middle and high school are at 1010 Autrey St. in Houston's Museum District. - Veritas Christian Academy, 7000 Ferris St., pre-K through grade 8. - Faith Lutheran Day School, 4600 Bellaire Blvd., pre-K and kindergarten. - Goldberg Montessori School, 4610 Bellaire Blvd., preschool through kindergarten, at the same address as Congregation Brith Shalom.
Grade ranges for Veritas, Faith Lutheran and Goldberg come from HAR.com's school listings; call the school to confirm before you plan around them.
The calendar
Houston ISD posts its academic calendar on the district website as PDFs in English and Spanish. The 2026-27 calendar has no classes on October 9, November 6, January 4, February 15 and April 16, which are staff development days; a Thanksgiving recess from November 23 to 27; a winter recess from December 21 to 31; Martin Luther King Jr. Day on January 18; and spring break from March 8 to 12, 2027. Early-release days are not on the yearly calendar, so watch for them from your campus.
A few honest tips
- Check the zone for the exact address before you sign a lease or a contract. A listing's school line is a starting point, not an answer. - If you want Pin Oak, plan for an application; it is not automatic for anyone. - Ratings and enrollment change every year. The Texas Education Agency publishes current campus reports at TXschools.gov, and that is a better source than any number quoted in a listing, including the ones on this page. - The city keeps a Local School Information page, and the SPARK Parks at Horn and Condit are a good first stop to meet other families.
